The Artist

Monica Coyne studied Industrial Arts at Humboldt State University with an emphasis in woodworking, furniture and construction. She also studied drawing, watercolor and oil painting and ceramics. She began her career in metalwork as a fabricator and was immediately drawn to the traditional methods of shaping and joinery found in blacksmithing. Coupling these methods with contemporary design has become her passion.

Monica has studied with Master Blacksmiths Mark Aspery, Toby Hickman and Daniel Miller. She is an instructor with the California Blacksmith Association and also serves on the board of the CBA. She is currently working on her advanced Journeyman certification.

Monica lives in Ettersburg, California, in rural Humboldt County with her husband, two dogs and some chickens. Her house and shop are located three miles from the nearest power pole. They rely on solar and hydro power to live their lives.
