Tension and Harmony in Iron

We live in a world of connections. Physical connections are fabricated by people or machines to join things together. Natural connections hold the apple to the tree or your hand to your wrist. Emotional connections join us to each other.

 

This work is my representation of these connections. When I begin a design I focus on the places where the pieces will join together. Tension and harmony equal balance and they also make a joint. Heating the metal to 2000 degrees, I form the pieces to shape a bond that though often complex portrays simplicity. I try to make each segment of a piece have it's own inherent beauty and often the organic joint is pulled literally from the segment itself.
